The Swiss Vitis Microsatellite Database (SVMD) is a standardised database of microsatellite genotypes of virtually all grape cultivars, rootstocks or wild grapevines that grow in Switzerland.
The SVMD contains data of about 170 Vitis individuals at the six microsatellite markers (VVMD5, VVMD7, VVMD27, VVS2, VrZAG62 and VrZAG79) chosen as a core set by the international grape genetics community (This et al. 2004, Theor Appl Genet 109(7):1448-1458).
In the SVMD, queries can be made by cultivars names or synonyms, alphabetical order or allele size (either one or two alleles).
The SVMD has been carried out at the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) 'Plant Survival', University of Neuchâtel, in collaboration with Forschungsanstalt Agroscope Changins-Wädenswil ACW. It has been funded by the State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) to support the Swiss participation to the COST action #858 "Viticulture: biotic and abiotic stress; grapevine defence mechanisms and grape development"
